Nominated for the Opus Classic 2020
The young German baritone Konstantin Krimmel won the prestigious German Music Competition in 2019 as well as the no less renowned Helmut Deutsch Prize. With his accompanist Doriana Tchakarova, he put together a program of ballads for his first production on ALPHA CLASSICS that perfectly suits the expressive concert singer. For the word lover, they are disguised operas in minute format, which give the interpreter great creative freedom. In addition to the grand masters of the song-ballad such as Schubert, Schumann and, of course, Loewe, Krimmel's brilliant debut also allows us to discover Adolf Jensen (1837-1879), who has hitherto received little attention.
Reviews
Pizzicato 09 / 2019: »The German-Romanian baritone Konstantin Krimmel has selected songs and ballads for this CD recital debut, which he, together with Dorina Tchakarova, creates very dramatically, very text-related and with the greatest vocal dramaturgy. This artistic option of treating each of these vocal pieces as a little drama is certainly not wrong, all the more so as it doesn't cause any vocal difficulties for the singer. Nothing seems forced, the voice remains beautifully supple and euphonious, even with verve. Krimmel's flexible and pleasantly timbred, relatively high baritone voice is guided by intellect and soul together. The voice leading is just as sure as the intonation. Above all, we admire in him an art of coloring that is quite exceptional and makes him a lieder singer of the highest quality, one who understands every word he sings. The accompaniment by Doriana Tchakarova is flawless and highly admirable, and the recording is also ideally balanced, present and pleasantly spatial.«
»In the interlocking of narrative flow and vocal streams, the baritone Konstantin Krimmel and Doriana Tchakarova unleash a pull that is hard to resist.« (›Recommendation of the Month‹ in Fono Forum, January 2020)

The songs by Hugo Kaun presented on this CD are probably the first commercial recordings of this composer's music. To date, only one study has been dedicated to him: “Hugo Kaun. Life and Work" (1863-1932), by Richard Schaal, which was published in 1946 by Josef Habbel in Regensburg. A recent essay on Kaun by Hartmut Hein should not go unmentioned in: Music in History and Present. The composer himself left us memoirs, which were published in 1932 by Linos-Verlag in Berlin under the title From my life: Experienced and heard.
